Lots to Report...

So, I know it has been a while since my last blog...gosh teaching really gets in the way of this keeping in touch stuff! Anyways, since my last post, I've made plans to go to San Diego this coming weekend, joined a gym, become the yearbook advisor and in charge of the science fair at school, been to the PS Street Fair, attended The Desert Sampler at El Paseo, found a great beer drinking place in Rancho Mirage, made banana bread and managed to prepare for my observation which is this Thursday! I have been busy!

I'll start with the conference I attended and the substitute thing since that is where I left off last week. The conference was so so...I did get to hear some great speakers and got a really neat science book and some resources for free though. On my way home from the conference I had a few extra minutes to kill before my class started so I stopped my the Cabazon Outlet Mall...of course! Don't worry though, I only purchased some sunglasses to shade my eyes from all the sun I'm getting out here! I wanted to get a new Coach bag, but decided that was probably a bad idea for my pocket book. The sub was great and he gave all the classes grades. 4 classes earned As and two earned Cs, not all bad for my first absence.

On Thursday I had another training for our school's writing program, then a science fair meeting, and then went to the Palm Springs Street Fair...which is a lot of fun! I can't wait to go back and actually have time to browse the art and such. There is tons of great food and cool music at this thing too! (Mom, we will go to this for sure when you are out here.)

Friday, I came from school and made banana bread with G'ma Forgacs's secret recipe. (Yes, Bagby...I will mail you some bread soon!) I had these nasty bananas that were just asking for it and surprisingly...this might have been my best batch yet! I savored every bite while grading all 800 papers from my students this week!

Saturday I joined the gym, 24 Hour Fitness and I now have a personal trainer. I'm sure many of you are shocked right now...but BELIEVE IT! My trainer's name is Lonnell and he is a gay, african american man and I love him! He is going to help me get into shape! Later on I ventured to the Yard House with my roomie and sampled several of their 92 draft beers...it was a good time (Dennis...this place has your name all over it!)

Then on Sunday I met with another teacher from my school at Starbucks, who is going to co-advise Yearbook with me (Lauren you would be proud of me). We sipped coffee and chatted about our vision for this year's publication. Then I lounged by the pool and made my weekly phone calls...because it has finally cooled down to about 90ish during the day here! It has been getting cold at night here though...65-70ish I think.

Monday was busy with my CLAD class and detentions of course. But today was good because I went to the Desert Sampler which is this big fundraiser for the schools. Some girls in my class were selling tickets to it, so I felt obligated to buy one...glad I did! I ate like a king! There were so many great restaurants. (Think Taste of Tecumseh times 100) This event was located in Palm Desert which is sort of a ritzy area about 15 mins on the 111. El Paseo was where it was at and let me tell you this is the Rodeo Drive of the Desert! It was amazing. I can't wait to do my Christmas shopping for people out here!

As for the rest of the week...I don't think I'll have a chance to write until Sunday after San Diego. I have a Minimum Day tomorrow, my observation on Thursday (By the way I'm doing a rendition of the Addams Family Song called the 'Atoms Family' that day and we're making an Atoms Family Album to go with!) Then it's off to San Diego on Friday night with Wendy and Robb. We're meeting some of Wendy's friends who live there and living it up on the beach! I'll be sure to post pictures of the weekend when I return!

The First Absence

Tomorrow I'm headed off to the Strategizing for Success in Science Conference in Ontario. It is about an hour or so up the 10 Fwy, and the conference is from 8-3, you know what that means...substitute time!! Today I put the fear of God in my students by waiving the discipline referal slips in their faces. I am hoping that all goes well tomorrow, but who knows! Those students vary from day to day. Suprisingly when I announced my absence there weren't many "YEAHS!" I guess that is a good thing.... One of my favorite students actually said, "Ms. Forgacs, if you aren't going to be here tomorrow, then I'm not coming to school!" I felt loved! I'll be sure to report the damage on Wednesday evening!
